The Infrared Optical Sensor (IRS) is a high-performance sensor designed for precise speed measurements in industrial applications. Encased in a threaded 303 stainless steel tube, the sensor operates effectively within a 0.5-inch range from the target, detecting contrasts or beam interruptions as small as 0.039 inches. Two models are available: IRS-P, equipped with a stereo plug for compatibility with Monarch handheld tachometers, and IRS-W, featuring tinned wires for integration with Monarch panel instruments. To ensure accurate measurements, a contrasting color target on the rotating part is required, with recommended options including wax crayon-coated shafts, labeled gear teeth, or other marked objects. The sensor, with a red/green LED On-Target Indicator, must be properly mounted to achieve optimal results. It operates with a speed range of 1-1,000,000 RPM, utilizing an infrared LED for illumination, and requires a power supply of 3.3 – 15 V dc @ 40mA.
