Why do we need Hydrogen Gas Detection in Battery Room?

The main reason for this is, the Hydrogen Gas generation from Lead-acid batteries. The electrolyte in the Lead-acid batteries emit hydrogen gas while charging and discharging.

Hydrogen is a colorless and odorless gas which when reaches a concentration range of 4% to 75% LEL is highly flammable in presence of oxygen and can even cause severe skin burns and eye issues to the workers coming in contact with it.

The best way to solve this is by installing a hydrogen gas detector that will activate the fan only if the concentration reaches 1% LEL and also raise an alarm when the concentration reaches to 4% LEL
Hydrogen gas being lighter than air, generally tends to accumulate at the top areas. Hence, Hydrogen gas detectors are fitted at the highest, draft-free location in the battery compartment i.e. 1 to 3 feet from ceiling.
